About Me

Hi! I’m Toby, and I’m taking on this challenge for Grange Academy a place that truly shaped me into who I am today. When I joined Grange in Year 7, I was coming from a mainstream school where I felt out of place, struggling with low confidence and aware of a stigma around being ‘different.’ Grange Academy changed all of that. Surrounded by classmates who were on their own journeys and understood my experience, I finally felt I belonged. Together, we supported each other. And with teachers who saw me as an individual, tailoring their approach to my needs, I gained a confidence I’d never known before.

Today, I’m proud to say that I’ve built a successful career in the IT industry, and Grange Academy laid the foundation for that success. Over the years, I learned to adapt the skills I was taught at Grange discovering ways to learn on my own terms, even when material was challenging or presented differently. I made mistakes, of course, but with each one, I took it on the chin, found a new approach, and tried again. This resilience and determination became my greatest strengths.

This endurance challenge is my way of giving back, pushing my own limits to show that with hard work and belief, anything is possible. This journey symbolises so much more than just physical endurance; it’s about overcoming the doubts and stigma that so many people with learning difficulties face. Throughout my life, people have doubted my abilities because of my ‘differences,’ and for a long time, I believed them. But I’ve come to realise that believing those doubts is the biggest mistake we can make.

To the students of Grange Academy, my message is simple: You are in control of your life. You determine your future, not other people. Don’t believe in anyone else’s doubts about you. Go out there, work hard, believe in yourself, and make your own path. Remember, failing is a part of succeeding you might stumble, you might fall, but you only truly fail when you choose to give up. You are capable of so much more than anyone including yourself may realise. Let this journey show that when you choose to keep pushing forward, there’s no summit too high to reach.
